چکیده

We review recent works on the dynamics of circumbinary accretion, including time variability, angular momentum transfer between disk and binary, secular evolution accreting binaries. These impact stellar binary formation/evolution, planet formation/migration, (super)massive black hole discuss inclined/warped disks connect with observations protoplanetary disks. A special kind accretion involves binaries embedded in big disks, which may contribute to mergers stellar-mass holes AGN Highlights include following: ▪ Circumbinary is highly variable, being modulated at P b (the period) or ∼5 , depending eccentricity e mass ratio q . The inner region can develop coherent eccentric structure, modulate affect physical processes (e.g., migration) taking place disk. Over long timescales, steers toward equal masses, it does not always lead orbital decay. depends parameters ( ) thermodynamic properties gas. misaligned around a low-eccentricity tends evolve coplanarity due viscous dissipation. An Eccentric Circumbinary Accretion Disk and the Detection of Binary Massive Black Holes

We present a two-dimensional grid-based hydrodynamic simulation of a thin, viscous, locally isothermal corotating disk orbiting an equal-mass Newtonian binary point mass on a fixed circular orbit. We study the structure of the disk aftermultiple viscous times. The binarymaintains a central hole in the viscously relaxed diskwith radius equal to about twice the binary semimajor axis. Disk surface...

Massive Binary Black Holes in the Cosmic Landscape

Binary black holes occupy a special place in our quest for understanding the evolution of galaxies along cosmic history. If massive black holes grow at the center of (pre-)galactic structures that experience a sequence of merger episodes, then dual black holes form as inescapable outcome of galaxy assembly, and can in principle be detected as powerful dual quasars. But, if the black holes reach...

Plunge waveforms from inspiralling binary black holes.

We study the coalescence of nonspinning binary black holes from near the innermost stable circular orbit down to the final single rotating black hole. We use a technique that combines the full numerical approach to solve the Einstein equations, applied in the truly nonlinear regime, and linearized perturbation theory around the final distorted single black hole at later times. We compute the pl...

Gravitational waves from inspiraling binary black holes

Binary black holes are the most promising candidate sources for the first generation of earth-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. We summarize and discuss the state-of-the-art analytic techniques developed during the last years to better describe the late dynamical evolution of binary black holes of comparable masses. Accretion history of super-massive black holes

We show that the luminosity function of the actively starforming Lyman break galaxies and the B-band quasar luminosity function at z = 3 can be fit reasonably well with the mass function of collapsed galaxy scale dark matter haloes predicted by viable variants of hierarchical cold dark matter dominated cosmological models for lifetimes tQ of the optically bright phase of QSOs in the range 10 to...
